Home window glass repairing tips

Breaking of the window glass is one of the very common factors that most of us face very often. Window glass may be broken due to bad weather or may be by some accidental situations, but the main problem that we usually see that they are taken very lightly. Through this article we are going to discuss about some of the repairing tips which can help you to overcome this problem of broken window glass pane.

Repairing broken window glass is comparatively very easy to repair but you have to bear patience, as well caution. it is advisable to call professional for repairing the bigger window glass pane.
  • First and foremost is that for safety you have to wear safety glass as well as gloves for precaution for the entire repairing process. 
  • Before you remove the glass panes for safety place a towel. Then remove the glasses one by one. Be careful about the sharp edges of the glasses. 
  • With the broken glass you have to replace them, so for you easy accessibility of the glass you can keep some of the shards of the glasses.
  • Don’t lay the shards open the moment you completed the task of removing the broken glass panes, immediately wrap them up with the newspapers and dispose them at a very safe place or keep them at some bags or disposal container.
  • Next come the measurement of the window panes, by using a measuring tape measure the open window and then subtract up to 1/16 to 1/8 from an inch from the length as well as from the width of the window, by this way you can get the exact measurement for the new window pane. 
  • The material for the window differs so if you have the frame which is either of vinyl or other metal, in that case they use spring clips while installing the window. As soon as you remove the glass then you have to remove those spring clips also with the help of the screw driver.
  • If you have a wooden frame then you there will putty filled into the frame. You have to remove the putty with the help of the putty knife. If it becomes hard to remove then for easy and safe removal you can use heat gun that will soften the putty. 
  • After the removal of the putty clean the frame well and apply a coat of linseed oil that will help the new glass pane for a longer period of time and it prevent them getting infected from the worms.
  • Use the glazing tool and with the help of that you have to apply glazing compound in to the frame. This compound will be of very soft in nature and thick and while you insert it should have the softness in it.
  • After this install the new glass pane and hold it firmly, apply the glazing compound around the edges of the newly installed glass panes. For the vinyl and the metallic panes screw up the spring’s clips and fix the new glass panes.
  • While applying the glazing compound in the window pane be sure that it should reach up to the depth of a pencil.
  • Apply the linseed oil again on the compound for a smoothen effect. Leave the compound at least for a week.
  • After weeks again apply the compound again to make it firm and then then you can apply paint on the frame.
